Partial Dentures

Are you missing one or more teeth? Consider filling the space with partial dentures at Fort Dental Health Group.

Partial dentures provide a cosmetic, functional, and removable solution for one or more missing teeth. They can correct speech impediments caused by missing teeth, as well as remedy cosmetic issues such as obvious gaps in the teeth. They can also provide missing support for sunken cheeks or lips due to missing teeth. Your dentist will colour-match the denture with your existing teeth to give you the most natural-looking solution possible. They’re designed to clip right into place with fasteners that attach to your natural teeth.

Why replace a missing tooth?

Missing teeth can make it difficult to chew certain foods, causing you to favour one side of your mouth over the other. As a result, this induces the wear of existing, healthy teeth. Missing teeth can also cause shifting of the adjacent teeth. When this happens, you may find them more difficult to keep clean, leaving you more susceptible to decay, gingivitis, or advanced gum disease. Crooked or shifted teeth can also be an eyesore – if you wish to correct crooked teeth, you’ll eventually require treatment such as Invisalign or another straightening procedure.

Caring for your partial dentures

It is recommended that you use a specialty brush for cleaning dentures, or a soft-bristled toothbrush. Gently brush all surfaces of the denture twice per day. It is not advised to use toothpaste when cleaning your dentures due to the abrasive nature of the product. Once your dentures are clean, place them in a glass of water or denture solution overnight to help them stay moist and keep their shape. You can place them in your mouth when you wake up in the morning.
