Preventative Dental Care

Preventive dental care is important in maintaining a healthy mouth, and is essential to combatting dental problems before they arise, promoting the health and longevity of your teeth – we only get one set of adult teeth, after all!

At our dental clinic in Fort Saskatchewan, we truly believe that preventative dental care and education are the keys to optimal oral health. There’s more to a smile than just the cosmetic aspects – we’re concerned with your oral and overall health. We take a proactive approach to our care: “dental health care” vs. “disease care”. A review of your medical history and any current medication you’re on can help us stay informed about any illnesses that may impact your dental health.

We couldn’t do it without you - good oral health starts at home!

Optimal oral health is a collaborative effort – we need you to do your part by visiting us for routine cleanings and dental exams, and to continue your regime of daily flossing and brushing at home. At your regular comprehensive dental exam, we will check the state of your teeth and gums, perform an oral cancer screening, and take digital X-rays when necessary for full visibility into the state of your mouth health. We will also check your gums and the bone around the teeth for any signs of periodontal disease, and all tooth surfaces will be checked for decay with special dental instruments. We will also check the state of your existing restorations, including current fillings, crowns, and bridges, to ensure that they are all in optimal condition.

Professional teeth cleaning in Fort Saskatchewan

Your hygiene appointment will include the removal of plaque and tartar, hardened plaque that has been left on the tooth for some time and is now firmly attached to the tooth surface. Tartar forms above and below the gum line, and can only be removed with special dental instruments, hence the need for regular professional hygiene appointments. Some of the other preventive care treatments available at Fort Dental Health Group include:

Dental Sealants: A helpful dental treatment recommended for children and teenagers (adults can also benefit) to help “seal out” bacteria and prevent decay.

Fluoride Treatment: A great way to help reinforce tooth enamel, and aid in preventing tooth decay caused from bacteria and sugars in the mouth.

Oral Cancer Screening: We examine your face, neck, lips, tongue, throat, tissues, and gums for any signs of oral cancer.
